Thorgrim Grudgebearer
He's finally finished and so far everything is holding together. Easily one of the most iconic models of 4th edition Thorgrim was always beyond my younger self but I can't think of a better leader for my dwarfs. Looking at him now there are areas I could have done better, such as adding gems to the axe head, but you have to stop somewhere and the ocean of time I once had to complete the army is quickly drying up.
I did put some extra details on him and spent some time trying to get his face more defined which I think was worth it. I tried to stick to the box colours as close as possible but with a few exceptions. Not surprisingly for the red period most of these choices were to remove red from the model which I replaced with steel and green. Following the advice from Vincent Venturella's hobby cheating I changed the dragon helm from red to green giving a nice triangle from the great book of grudges, his axe handle and the helm. I honestly didn't think of that till later I just thought a red helm would clash too much with the throne. I did the same with the gem in the helm and his boots. The only real problem I had was his beard. I hate dry brushing but don't have the patience (or hands and eyes) to paint each strand of hair. Maybe I should have done it first to make dry brushing easier but I always seem to leave the beards till last.
I also made a practice YouTube video with him to see how that goes and if its something I could stick to. I think each shot improves over the last one so I might try that next year.
With Thorgrim out the way I still have the grudge thrower, cannon and 9 shield dwarfs to paint up. I also have some banners to do which may be a problem I'll see how things go. At the moment I have coloured, black and white and plain banners and which I use my come down to time. I think with Thorgrim I'll try to paint the black and white one that should avoid freehand but also feel like I painted it.
Thanks for reading.
