Dwarf cannon
I always remembered this cannon having a great colour scheme with flames at the front and either a black or blue barrel but when checking I was a little underwhelmed. After looking through Google for inspiration on how to paint up the cannon nothing really jumped out at me so I grabbed two random colours I hadn't used yet and set to work.
I was going to use the same style on the cannon as I did on the stone thrower, wood grain and steel, more function over style. Wanting to tie the cannon into the crew somehow I decided on using an orange base for the wood rather than a brown. That looked ok so I tried dry brushing on the orange tones which then led to the teal barrel because why not use both colours? These are not colours I would normally use and couldn't be further from what I originally had in mind but I think it works.
The crew painted up quickly one of the benefits of already picking out the colours. Being what I consider quite offensive colours that half painted terrible looking stage was rough going happily broken up by a break over Christmas.
There's only three weeks left until the army is required for battle and I still have 10 minis to paint one of those being the engineer. I've started on the musician and a warrior to help get through the command group while also getting to share a colour scheme to speed things up. After that I'll tackle the banner bearer which I think will be the last banner I have time to paint, sorry Thorgrim. At 3 minis per week I should be fine but I'm nothing if not easily distracted.
Thanks for reading.

I think the colours work well.
ReplyDeleteA 4 crew cannon, is that normal for the rules?
I think I recognise the dude with the spyglass as a crew from the Gob Lobber?
It should be 3 crew so the dwarf on the steps is just set dressing. I still have a few crew men they are great character full minis that's how the gob lobber crew man ended up here he was too good to leave behind.
DeleteI whole heartedly approve of models just as set dressing!!
