Long way to go, short time to get there
I've had to take bit of a painting break lately not for anything interesting just school holidays and nice weather. Sadly lazing about in the sun doesn't get armys painted and I'm on a tight deadline again, I really need to find a more relaxing hobby.
Luckily, I mean sadly, my wife and daughter have left me alone for two whole weeks giving me plenty of time to do jobs around the house paint toy soldiers. Sounds like a lot of time but the reason I'm not going with them is because I still have to work and a 12 hour day doesn't leave much painting time. The upside is I only need to paint 2 models a war wagon and general on gryphon both of which are already built, mostly. I still need to do some gap filling on the gryphon and I'm hoping he'll paint up pretty quickly.
I think the war wagon will also be ok my biggest worry was painting the wood which I was able to get finished the other night. I normally hate dry brushing but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it so after a couple of colours and a wash it's looking good. All that's left are the details, horses and crew and I'm really not sure how far to go with the crew. My first thought is to paint them the same way as the swordsmen but they have quite a bit of detail and once they are crammed into the wagon how much are you going to see? As always I'll start painting and see what happens. One decision I did make was to reverse the red and yellow from the GW colour scheme. My thinking was that yellow isn't a very war like colour although the red has turned out darker than I intended I'm also worried about the brass work not standing out against the yellow. I'm sure once it's all done it'll be fine.
I may also unintentionally be building a wood elf army. I bought a tree man and I don't know why.
Thanks for reading.
Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteI think the red and yellow works really well!
Does it match with the rest of the army, or are they in brighter reds and yellows?
I think it matches or close enough that I'm not too worried about it. I've always loved this model can't wait to get it finished.
