Starting a 2000 Point Wolves of the Sea Army – Marauders First
This post kicks off my Warhammer Wolves of the Sea army project, where I’m aiming to paint a full 2000 point force ready for a tournament in July. I’m beginning with 40 Chaos Marauders from the new battalion box, the most time consuming part of the army. Getting these done will set the pace for the rest of the project, and I’ve already settled on a colour scheme (sort of) which should help speed things up.
That being said it's slow going trying to do all 40 at once however this will only be for the first couple of stages, the capes and trousers. I decided to keep these the same on all the models and since the capes are mostly washes and dry brushing it should go quickly (it didn't). I'll then need to break out the wet pallet for some final highlights on the fur and the base coat for the trousers. I haven't decided on when I'll do the other details on the capes such as the bones and chaos stars but it would probably be a good idea to knock them out now while they are fresh in my mind.
Since starting I've decided that I should do all the bones and small details on the minis at the same time which will be later on. I also realised how difficult it was going to be painting the trousers and tunic while the models were stuck to their bases. After a terrifying 20 minutes with my hobby knife I eventually got them all off and ready for the next stage of painting. As a bonus this will make magnetising the bases a lot easier.
Painting up an army in the time I have isn't going to be easy. I'd love to dedicate all my free time to it but that's just not how life works especially at this time of year when the garden is crying out for some attention. Should the worst, or should that be likely, happen I'll take my dwarfs to the tournament instead. I've only taken them to a tournament once before link here and it didn't go well for them. I'm hoping with my extra experience and a less tournament like scene they will do a bit better. The lack of core units might hinder them so ideally I'll get the wolves of the sea ready.
You can see how my last tournament went here.
Thanks for reading.
