Empire Wizard
It took longer than expected, very inconsiderate to release a game based on Star Trek Voyager when I'm in a time crunch, but the wizard is finally finished.
I painted the horse first as I figured that would be the worst part and I was definitely right there. The front wasn't too bad but the back end is all folded and bit a a nightmare to figure out the pattern. I got there in the end though which was a relief then it was on to picking colours for the wizard himself. I used my usual method of picking two at random which has worked out well for me in the past.
For the staff and sword I wanted to try using fluorescent colours again, I'm sure it's a genius idea but I can't seem to get it to work. When I've used them for plasma weapons in the past they turned out great but I do use white ink for them while I'm only using metallics on swords. The staff turned out ok with a bit of highlighting and using a wash to darken down the recesses then a highlight at the top using my lightest silver colour. The sword wasn't as easy. I tried to layer on metallics then glaze over with the fluorescent but I couldn't get a smooth coat. I then tried mixing the fluorescent and metallic together first as layers and then wet blending. This did look better but rather dull and not very magical so I scraped the whole idea and used regular green paint.
With the wizard out the way my army is almost complete (again). With 25 days left to go I still need to paint a demigryph, a Pegasus and the baggage train. In a stroke of madness I've decided to paint all 3 at once to hopefully avoid finishing one and seeing a whole unpainted mini left to do. That's right I'm at the point of playing mind games with myself and I'm determined to win.
Thanks for reading.
