Random nonsense
Bit of a boring one today but there are things going through my head that I need to write down, I'll throw in some pictures of what I'm currently working on to spice things up a little.
GW just announced a whole lot of classic empire minis coming up on made to order. Naturally I want to buy them all, they are even in the correct colour scheme! Realistically that would be far too expensive and I'd never get them painted before retirement. Maybe just a unit though I could use a unit of halberds and some captains. The problem is I already have an empire army so none of this is required but I'd happily replace my plastic minis with metal ones. Ideally GW could commit to producing these, and others like them, on a rolling basis maybe once a year or so. As it is I'll probably get a unit and depending on the price maybe some handgunners. I already have plastic hand gunners but they're half painted and I can't find the inspiration to finish them.
But do I want to spend money on an army I already have or start saving for the next one. My first army was the undead in fourth edition so if I could get anything on made to order it would be them. Sure the skeletons were plastic and the ghouls were questionable but the zombies were great. Unfortunately the undead are now a legacy army along with skaven, lizardmen and dark elves (also a top contender for made to order). From the existing core factions I already have dwarfs although more would be nice, orcs and goblins would be great but the range would be a little overwhelming and chaos would be amazing if included realm of chaos era stuff.
Despite all these great choices and being a legacy faction my first pick would be the chaos dwarfs. Such a fantastic range of core troops, sturdy dwarfs and rangey hobgoblins, along with great characters on monsters. I'd really hoped with their release in AoS some made to order would come out but sadly I'm still waiting. So while I'd love to buy up another empire army instead I'm going to use this as a sign that I need to start putting some money aside for the inevitable chaos dwarf release that's coming some time soon, please.
I still have some things to paint up for the empire mostly to bring it up to 2500 points. My dwarf army is almost there and I'd like to pick up some miners and slayers again to bring it up to 2500 points. After that I have a gap in my hobby. I have started buying up skaven but that would be a long term project. I wouldn't expect to get them finished next year and if this year has taught me anything it's that having a goal gets me motivated to finish projects. One of my long term unfinished projects is the minis from the citadel chaos combat cards so far I've only painted two or three. In an effort to get them done I'm thinking about starting a YouTube channel putting out a video once or twice a month depending on how my painting time goes. I need to get the dwarfs finished first then I can start painting and filming to see how feasible it is and once I have a few ready to go I'll start posting. The general idea is short videos about the mini rather than painting tutorials, there are people far better than me already doing that. I'm still working out the details but thought it might be fun to try.
Thanks for reading.

I did have a long reply prepared about oldhammer, tournaments, budgets and reasons for playing, collecting etc.
ReplyDeleteBut ultimately, do whatever makes you happy, life is too short and Morr is every watchful.
Life's definitely too short for army painting far better to have a fun project to work on.
