A new start (enjoy the rabbits)

I recently moved back, temporary, into my old job which I started 11 years ago, it was this job that offered me the time and money I needed to get back into this ridiculous hobby. I started out by finding battle reports at hoodlinghole then quickly buying the ultimate paint set from the army painter. What I really wanted to do though was collect and paint the range of chaos miniatures from the citadel combat cards I had in the 80s which led me to realmofchaos80s and while I did eventually get most, or maybe all, of those miniatures I only painted a couple. I was enthusiastic but direction less buying more than I could paint and not really sticking to any one thing in particular something that hasn't changed.

A lot has changed though and a few things in particular have stayed the same. We are currently doing up the house and that means a new and hopefully tidy painting area, it unfortunately also means I have to sort through the pile of shame to pack it all away. Coming across all those half started projects I realised that most of them will never be looked at again. My Terror of the lichmaster project never really got going which is a real shame as Otherworld miniatures are fantastic and I'm really happy with how the ones I painted turned out. Sadly Otherworld is no more, I've realised that I'll probably never have anyone to play with and I really need a reason to get things painted or I'll move onto something else. So far I've binned my half built buildings and I may be selling off all the minis, even the painted ones. I think there is a good chance a lot of my minis will end up on eBay which is going to be really hard to do but probably necessary and should give me a fresh start.

While a new painting desk is the reason my hobby life has been turned upside down it's the decade long time warp that has shifted my perspective. The release of the old world gave me a game I was excited about, entering an event was the push I needed to finish my Empire army and the revival of the realmofchaos80s blog remind me of what I'm truly enthusiastic about. So where does that leave me? I guess back to 2014. I once again have a new set of army painter paints (good ones this time) and I've found a project that inspires me. I started re-reading realmofchaos80s from the start and was reminded of knightmare miniatures pantheon of chaos range. I'd backed some of the Kickstarters and once again only painted a couple of minis but what a fantastic opportunity I have now. The warriors of chaos in the old world can easily field a whole army built using pantheon of chaos miniatures meaning I get to paint an army of unique minis that will serve an actual purpose. I'm quite excited to get started on it but first I need to sort out my painting area, finish the mini I'm currently painting, paint the war wagon and gryphon for the event in August and sell most of my current minis. That's quite a task but I think it's achievable I just need to be ruthless with what I'm keeping and what I get rid of.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick to a project this time or if it's doomed to failure but at the moment I'm feeling good about it. If I can keep this level of enthusiasm up I may even have an army painted by the end of the year. Wouldn't that be something worth celebrating?

Thanks for reading.
