Marauder giant
Had an incredibly enjoyable time painting up an iconic model. This guy sits right in my era of miniatures so being able to get him on made to order was too fantastic an opportunity to pass up. I have to admit I wasn't quite able to paint him how I'd envisioned but very happy nonetheless.
Without going online to check for accuracy I wanted to paint him up the way I remembered. Bright yellow with checks here and there and some sections of his outfit clearly being repurposed banners. With that scheme in mind I set to grabbing paints and laying down colours with every intention of adding checks and transfers to get the look I was after. As you can see while painting I changed my mind, the model was looking quite busy as it was.
The biggest issue with the mini was getting it built. Pinning models has always been bit of a nightmare I can never quite get the holes in the correct positions. Drilling the holes is usually challenging enough finding good drill bits for a pin vice is apparently impossible with most being made out of what I can only assume is lead. If you know a good source of bits please let me know.
To counter my pinning problem I came up with a genius solution. Turns out baking soda and super glue make an unbreakable bond. I've tried this before with no success but maybe on a larger area it would work. I glued the two halves of the body together and pushed the legs into place. I then poured some baking soda into the body to seal up the joins before adding the arms with a little glue on the inside which also got covered. Making sure there was a good covering of glue on the lower part of the head I stuck it down and gave it a good shake. So far this has worked none of the joins have came apart and the whole thing feels very solid. The only downside is that there is a gap between the head and the body so every time the giant was turned upside down during painting and little puff of white power would come out. After five minutes of vigorous shaking I think the last of it came out.
With an amazing mini completed I feel like I'm getting my hobby mojo back. I did have the passing idea of starting a orc army with the giant and shaman on wyvern, I'm building the wyvern now and I don't think it will stand up to much handling. It may be oldhammer blasphemy but I wish these classic minis could have been done in plastic.
I think my next job will be some chaos knights to finish off the spearhead force. I also need to paint up some cars for my brother which is not as much fun but needs doing.
Thanks for reading.
