Chaos chariot

Subassemblies may have been a mistake.

The first of three chaos chariots has been completed making me one step closer to having a painted spear point force. Just the knights to go now which seems like an achievable target to get done. The finished model is looking good however the process was a long hard battle.

I really wanted my chaos army to be painted to almost the best of my abilities. I say almost because I also wanted to finish it at some point. To achieve this the three chariots had been left in subassemblies to make painting all the separate parts easier. This worked great until I had to glue it all together which is where, excuse the pun, it all fell apart. The horses didn't quite fit into the harness and with only one contact point to the base it made sticking them together difficult. I eventually decided on pinning the horses to the base then gluing the chariot onto them. With that done I moved onto the reigns carefully gluing them into place before trying to find the best way to attach the harness. This was the state the chariot was in when a Craftee plushie went flying across the room crashing into chariot scattering parts in all directions. A week later after finishing the repairs I found the final piece, glued it on and the nightmare was over. The question is do I keep the remaining two as subassemblies or glue them together now, I trust plastic cement a lot more than super glue and modpodge.

It's been a while since I painted up some slaves to darkness so got out a warrior to remind me of how it should look. I remember them looking a lot better than they actually are which was a little disappointing but also took away any pressure at matching the paint job. What really surprised me was that I had used a matt varnish rather than a satin. It made the mini look a little flat and removed the shine from the armour and the glow from the runes. I tried using a satin on the chariot at first but it didn't look quite right. I think ideally a satin followed by some contrast medium on the cloak and furs to knock back the shine would be better. I've sprayed it matt as that's quicker than respraying everything else.

In gaming news there is an old world event and a spearhead both coming up in towns near me! A quick check of my rota and I'm working during both of them. There is a wafer thin chance that things will change between now and then but it is only wafer thin.

After complaining about the price of the orc big uns I've bought the command squad. The marauder giant and shaman on wyvern are also on order so I may be starting another army before finishing one of the four already started. Can't say I'm unhappy with any of my decisions and hopefully it won't be too long before I get to post up more painted minis.

Thanks for reading.
