Dwarf Ironbreakers
My (very) slowly growing dwarf army is now up to two finished units with the completion of the Ironbreakers. I've always thought of Ironbreakers as the epitome of dwarven warriors. Stood shoulder to shoulder in the darkest depths holding the line against whatever horrors come against them. I have them on 20mm bases to match my already painted dwarfs and have some of the spacer movement trays for the old world.
Painting them was a fairly slap dash affair far below what is fitting for their station but also nice and relaxing. They were sprayed silver with a coat of nuln oil on top to darken everything down and pick out the details. Those details were painted with brass, fleshshade then a lighter brass. So far the process has been kinda fun. I then had to highlight everything silver. I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed this stage but seeing the before and after helps to remind me why I'm doing it even if they do get a little sloppy at the end.
I try to use red as a little spot colour throughout the army and with these being the true warriors and guardians of the settlement they got a bit extra. Most obvious is the shields which I used to test out the two thin coats paint. I already have the bone triad which I am really not impressed with it's really thick and not easy to mix up even after a good shaking. The red is a lot better and I would say lives up to the described properties even with my quick and dirty painting. The other red is the gems on some of the minis or what I decided was gems. Sticking with being quick the were based in silver then given a coat of the red gem stone paint GW used to make (maybe they still do I'm not sure). The lower half got a coat flesh tearer red and a spot of silver on the top.
With that unit done it's time to start the next thing which I already have in mind. So far out of three editions of AoS I haven't played a single game and given my unsocial nature that's unlikely to change. However I live in hope that one day I'll actually have the time and enthusiasm to fight glorious battles in fantastical settings with possibly painted models. To that end I've taken an interest in spear point the new way to play AoS. From what I know it's smaller quicker battles which should be something a one day event could be built around. The armies are preset from the starter boxes and it just so happens that I have the slaves to darkness one. Well sort of I have the old vanguard box and some chariots so everything I need. I'm already about half way through painting everything I so I'll focus on getting the chariot done which I'm hoping will be a nice easy win. When I was painting them before I was trying to do three at once and I just couldn't get the horns the way I liked them. Once I'm passed that stage it should be fine.
I'm still no further on with the Brettonians even though I picked a colour scheme. Maybe the scheme is only for the leaders then I can paint lots of different schemes? Fortunately I don't have enough painting time for this to be a problem. I'm also remembering how much I hate building metal models. The Brettonian lord on pegasus is a nightmare to put together.
Thanks for reading.
