Empire general

Well he was finished on time but how did he get on at the tournament.

I had three games against dark elves, beastmen and high elves which I won, lost and lost. I never knew the rules as well as I thought I did and that coupled with forgetting about special rules and magic items didn't help. By the last game I was starting to get on top of things, I also started to slow down and look things up there was plenty of time I don't know why I felt like I had to rush things.

The steam tank was bit of a let down it died every game without really doing much. The cannon was a bit lack luster and unless it changes and breaks things straight away your stuck with D3+1 attacks per turn. Lucky it's a great mini so I'm happy I took it.

The demigryphs were great and the knights not so much even with the general in there. It didn't help that I forgot all about the war banner until the last game which was very short lived. Due to good dice by the high elves and terrible dice from the empire some dragon princess went right through the knights and demigryphs.

The stand out unit was the swordsmen with their 6 static combat res. They could have won my game against the beastmen. They were up against two units of dragon ogres, a razorgor and a gigantic chaos spawn. Every time I got one unit to break and flee I would follow up into another one rather than run them down. I never had any killing power in there other than the commander's great weapon. Remembering the priests spells would have helped as well but live and learn.

The wizard and road wardens were very under utilized. Demonology probably wasn't the best pick but I liked it. The summoning has alot of potential killing power, he took out 10 dark elf crossbows with one shot. Most of the time his main job was dispelling as his spells were not really suitable although I probably should have used his template rather than avoiding it.

The road wardens were great but died quite quickly in the first two games. I forgot to use them as skirmishes which hampered them. Against the beastmen I used fire and flee but thought I couldn't fire after a rally which could have taken out the chariot with one wound left. The chariot then changed and wiped them out.

So I learned a lot and I know what to look up for next time, I also learnt not to rush things and take my time with the rules. Being unsociable I was already a bit on edge and flustered with things so having a little flow chart would probably be a good idea. Not sure if I would do it again though. It's a long day out of my comfort zone and while the games were ok the time in-between was rough and pretty much what I expected. A of people that knew each other and then me, kind of felt like I'd taken someone's place. Anyway I'll see how it goes at least I won a Daemon prince as a consolation prize. I had to pay for it but that still counts.

Thanks for reading.
